how does a child do it—

how does a child do it—
it’s simplest then to define—
love, without capacity or a clear reason why;
so whimsically, like music musically described:
he says “I”, he sees “you”, and anything else fits just fine,
so long as it’s sweet to remember, so sweet to surrender to,
but he doesn’t know this, and he cries,
but a man does, and that too;
without it he dies, but then he grows,
and, he is still alive,
perhaps he just forgets,
but he wants more each time.
