some guy’s eyein

he seemed so small to me then,
a determined man, seemingly—

for what, I know not now—when,
in a moment, he looked to me:

of what worth is one to another,
more than that time we think we give—
by what code can you call me brother;
but by the life we chose to live;

don’t seasons stretch the skies out
and bring ease or slow the road’s way—
and reasons meet eyes and so send doubt
far—just by their look and sound—away:

how well can I follow your lead
while, you go on none the wiser—

o unless you’ve learned how to read
the simple subtle things that so inspire.
